What Relocation Teaches You (That Has Nothing to Do With Moving)

Relocation during Peak Season and what it teaches you

Field Notes from Peak Season at CRI

If you’ve lived through a peak relocation season, you know it’s about far more than packing and delivery. Behind every move is a story—of transition, uncertainty, excitement, and emotion. At CRI, the summer rush pushes us to move faster, think smarter, and connect deeper. Because in the end, it’s not just about logistics—it’s about people.

Here are a few of the life and work insights we’ve been reflecting on this season:

Flexibility Under Pressure Isn’t Optional—It’s a Superpower

During peak season, plans change by the hour. Flights get delayed. Trucks get rerouted. Closings fall through. The ability to pivot quickly—without losing momentum or empathy—can make all the difference. As John Wildey, our VP of Household Goods and Logistics, puts it, “You learn to balance urgency with patience. There’s a rhythm to problem-solving during peak season—it’s about staying calm while everything moves fast.”

Communication Is Everything—Especially Across Cultures

Relocation isn’t just physical—it’s deeply cultural. Whether it’s understanding a client’s preferred communication style or navigating the nuances of regional and global customs, success often hinges on cultural sensitivity. “The ability to listen closely, ask the right questions, and read between the lines makes all the difference,” says John. “It’s not just about language—it’s about connection.

Vendor Relationships Are Built Long Before You Need Them

Dependable partnerships aren’t formed in the moment—they’re the result of ongoing connection and collaboration. In relocation, the difference between a smooth move and a stressful one often comes down to the strength of the relationships behind the scenes.

“When pressure hits, true partners rise to the occasion,” says Lisa Lovvorn, SVP of Business Development and Partnerships. “You can’t manufacture trust overnight. The best outcomes come from relationships grounded in mutual accountability, reliability, and a shared commitment to the client’s success.”

Everyone Defines “Home” Differently

Relocation reminds us that “home” is a deeply personal concept. For some, it’s a favorite chair or a pet-friendly neighborhood. For others, it’s proximity to family or a fresh start. “You see how emotional this process is,” says Carlos Huereca, COO “We’re not just moving things—we’re moving lives.”

What’s Something You’ve Learned This Summer

Maybe you discovered a hidden strength. Maybe you realized how much your team matters. Or maybe—somewhere between the last-minute changes and back-to-back calls—you found a new level of patience, creativity, or grit. Peak season has a way of revealing who we are under pressure—and reminding us what really keeps things moving: people who care.

We’re listening. Drop us a note or share your own field notes—we’d love to hear them.
